Prior to founding Océanie, Laura served in international Public Administration 2007-2019. She served in several departments: Crown Prosecution Service, Government of Western Australia: Department of Education Services, HM Coastguard, HM Prison Service, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Ministry of Defence (Royal Navy), the National Health Service and UK Border Agency.
Her roles have been in Administration and Corporate Support, Business Management and Improvement, Corporate Finance, Enforcement and Compliance, Governance, Legal and Medical Casework Administration, Procurement, Operational Delivery, Quality Assurance, and Survey, Inspection and Audit Support.
Laura has also served on board sail training vessels since 2004. Starting as a youth crew member, she worked her way up to become professional crew. She has served on Australian, Dutch and UK Flagged vessels. When onboard, she now serves as Relief Chief Cook or Purser. She is also a published academic author in sail training and ocean literacy and has contributed to several conferences about the subject, including IOC-UNESCO events.
When shoreside, Laura has served with the UK Cadet Forces since 2004. She began with the RAF Air Cadets as Administration and Training Officer. She now serves with the Sea Cadets at TS Scarborough as Ass. Unit Staff Officer Offshore.
Laura has a BA(Hons) Business Management and Sustainable Business (Hull) and MSc Coastal and Marine Resource Management (Portsmouth). She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Administrative Management.
Away from the maritime world, Laura is a keen indoor rower, is currently into the Conquer virtual fitness challenges, and enjoys exploring the countryside (she adores waterfalls). She also loves to travel and live music events. Laura is a huge dog lover, having grown up with King Charles Spaniels. Since returning to her home area, she has also discovered gardening (she has three to look after!).
Quirky fact: she has a rose bush called "Tenacious" which is named after the Jubilee Sailing Trust tall ship. It was a celebratory gift for passing her driving test from a good friend who is the Chief Officer of the vessel "Tenacious".
